An exciting new opportunity has risen for a professional development officer to join a global membership body delivering good practice and guidance, training courses and qualifications within their sector.

The ideal candidate will experience of working in a membership or similar body in a customer focused role, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as meticulous attention to detail. You will enjoy working with others and helping them learn.

Job role:

Engaging with students and young professionals

  1. Develop and implement strategies to encourage students and younger professionals to join the organisation and to support them in progressing towards professional membership
  2. Produce regular newsletters and communications to support younger members in their development
  3. Organise and when necessary deliver talks to students underlining professional development and the benefits of joining as a student member
  4. Promote and coordinate MyCareerPath and the organisations professional development system.
  5. Contribute to the ongoing development of services for Associate Members
  6. Provide support to the Young Professionals Council

Working with universities

  1. Support the Accreditation Manager in engaging with universities, Learning Affiliates, academic staff and potential Student members
  2. Assist the Professional Development and Accreditation Manager in organising accreditation visits, ensuring follow up work is completed, updating accreditation records and preparing statistics as required.
  3. Undertake accreditation visits, acting as the staff representative and preparing follow up reports.
  4. Deputise for the Accreditation Manager when required.
  5. Provide support to the Accreditation Advisory Panel

General

  1. Respond to enquiries about membership and professional development, including taking payments, and providing advice on membership and progression and attending events as the representative.
  2. Carry out additional project work as may from time to time be required, in particular in support of initiatives to develop a professional development culture and promote.

In carrying out these duties the post holder will:

  • work in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and practice inclusive of Health & Safety at Work requirements, and Equal Opportunities and data protection law;
  • actively participate in appraisals, team meetings and meeting your self-development needs;
  • and undertake any other duties necessary to this post as delegated by your line manager.

Person specification

The successful applicant will have

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports, communications and articles in clear, plain English
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with professionals at all levels
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Friendly, can-do attitude
  • Willingness to travel which will include some overnight stays
  • A track record of running systems and processes

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a membership, careers or professional development role or similar
  • Experience of giving presentations
  • Experience of producing newsletters or other communications
  • Experience of working with groups, committees or volunteers
