Head of Membership


The Head of Membership is responsible for activities and projects to expand and retain the
membership. They work to develop an outstanding membership service and are responsible
for developing outreach, events, campaigns and activities for members at a central, regional
and local level. They monitor and onboard members and work to provide support to potential
and current members, maximising their contribution and loyalty.

Key responsibilities:
1. Develop and manage projects and activities to significantly expand the membership including
coordinating campaigns and events to increase engagement activities
2. Develop and manage systems of membership management to effectively register, monitor
and communicate with members including the distribution of membership information and
updates
3. Develop a volunteers strategy to mobilise the membership through activities and actions
organised at a central, regional and local level both digitally and offline

Wider responsibilities:
1. Develop an integrated plan with goals and action plans for members
2. Provide analysis of the membership and up to date reports into activities
3. Write material and information and work with the marketing team to develop membership
campaigns to increase membership, oversee internal communications to members, including
newsletters, emails, events and awareness campaigns
4. Develop mechanisms for providing excellent support and information to members
5. Identify, recruit and track members and their activities
6. Oversee volunteer actions and activities and convert members into active volunteers
7. Create and distribute membership marketing materials, surveys, face sheets, welcome
packs, letters, emails and other information
8. Manage meetings and events for members at a regional and local level
9. Identify members and volunteers at all levels
10. Set up a process to incentivise and reward volunteering and active membership
11. Act as the day to day contact for members and their queries
12. Administration for the membership scheme
13. Renewal and subscription systems
14. Identify, recruit and manage volunteers through lead point contact volunteers
15. Lead members events and a programme of activities for members
16. Support outreach activities to the general public and ensure the effective management of
data and information relating to volunteers and activities
17. Outreach for specific communities and create engagement plans to encourage and drive
membership
18. Provide systems and resources that can train and support members and volunteers

We are very excited to be working with one of the most impressive membership bodies for the UK financial markets. With more than 35 years experience of providing advocacy, policy, regulatory advice and best practice, this is a completely member driven organisation.

This is a full time role which would be a strategic and rewarding career move for an experienced business development / client relationship individual with an interest in private equity and venture capital. You will be based in London with the expectation of the ability to travel within the UK as required.

What will I enjoy as part of this role?

Your primary responsibilities will be to track and monitor engagement with members, to identify where there are opportunities and needs, to increase engagement with specific members, to devise and execute engagement plans, and to manage a regional engagement plan.

Regional engagement is key to ensuring an inclusive platform and you will be helping the Head of Membership Services to devise and execute a plan to ensure that members are fully aware of regional activities, and executing a plan to support organisations with similar aims nationwide. Strong commercial awareness is required as your engagement will have a commercial impact. You will enjoy playing a pivotal role and on a day-to-day basis you will need to work with the Membership, Commercial, Marketing, Events, and Training teams and with senior internal and external professionals. You will also have line management responsibility for a Membership Engagement Executive and Membership Data Administrator.

What key skills and experience will I need to ensure that I succeed?

  • Strong private equity/venture capital knowledge is preferable. Experience of working with firms within the industry, or with other large financial or professional services firms would be beneficial;
  • A proven sales, business development or commercial relationship management track record is essential;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to present ideas and concepts to a broad set of audiences;
  • Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are essential;
  • Strong relationship building skills;
  • A positive "can-do" attitude;
  • Polite, persuasive and professional communication skills are essential;
  • Collaborative and consultative approach, strong work ethic;
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM, in particular Microsoft Dynamics.

We are very excited to be working with one of the UK's leading chartered bodies. With more than 40 years supporting its members, they are responsible for providing best practice in this industry and work closely with policy makers.

This is a new role within the membership department responsible for delivering consistently high levels of customer service and support for our range of volunteer membership groupings within the organisation. The role will focus on implementing operational change using our new CRM system to deliver measurable improvements, particularly focusing on driving engagement as well as membership growth. The role will also manage and support the regions with the aim of improving member engagement specifically within the regions and recognising volunteer effort.

What will I be responsible for as part of this role?

Society and Groups

  • Responsible for the strategic development of Special Interest Groups and Societies and for delivering measureable improvements to the regular activities and events of the Groups and Societies as well as contributing to the conversion of non members into Membership/society membership.
  • Identify opportunities and new initiatives to maximise membership growth and engagement. Prioritising development opportunities and initiatives where appropriate for implementation. Working alongside the membership development manager to coordinate opportunities within the team.

Regions, Chapters & Networks

  • Manage the regional grant process on an annual basis. Working with the Treasurer and Director of Membership to confirm final grant allocation to UK and International regions.
  • Attend regional committee meetings during the year to maintain good relationships with regional committees in the UK and Internationally.
  • Produce and analyse regional statistics for presentation.

General

  • Line Management of Membership Services Cooridnator. Overseeing the day to day work. coaching, training and conducting appraisals.
  • Work with the Director of Membership to compile the annual budget for the membership department forecasting income and expenditure particularly forecasting membership growth.
  • Provide general administrative assistance to the Membership Department with tasks which may include:
    • Reminding members to pay their annual subscription fees
    • Updating the database
    • Processing applications
    • Responding to emails
    • Collating literature for use at events
  • Undertake any other duties as requested by the Director of Membership.

This role may involve travel across the UK or internationally and work outside of standard office hours in order to attend events and committee meetings.

What key skills and experience will I need to ensure that I succeed?

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience of implementing operational change to deliver measurable improvements ideally within a membership body.
  • Experience of working in an international membership organisation
  • Awareness of the Engineering Council or another professional registration body

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment, dealing promptly and effectively with inquiries with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written skills.
  • Experience in delivering presentations at committee meetings and/or at events to promote membership.
  • Good working knowledge of PC software, Microsoft Office, Salesforce CRM.
  • Experience of working with committees and volunteer members.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with good personal organisation and time management skills.
